Photographing Toilet Paper for 3 hours?

Started a 7 session studio workshop yesterday. Our first session was all about… wait for it… toilet paper! we shot it for 3 hours while playing with 1, 2 or 3(2 flashes and one reflective surface) light sources – playing around with a snoot, radio slaves and other studio gear was fun. While I do not think any of the photographs I took are not really inspiring :) here they are for you to judge.

Too many photos!

Hi All! Its been awhile! We (me and my wife Miri) had a great time in our vacation in Argentina & Chile. Even though we returned in the end of March, I did not write any posts until now for mainly 2 reasons. First of all, i got a new position at work which took a couple of bites from my spare time. Second of all, I took too many photos! I returned from the trip with thousands of photos and as of yet, I did not have the time to sit and post process them. Hopefully I will get to it soon enough but I assume it will take a while and perhaps I should give up on waiting for me to have the time to post process all of them and just focus on the best and share them with you.

Luckily I have friends who love photography as well and keep me updated with interesting stuff related to photography. A good friend of mine, Nathan, sent me a link to the following HDR tutorial from a famous travel photography blog named Stuck in Custom. Nathan asked me to give it a go and share my experience, so I did. Most of the images below are made from a single RAW file and were made by following the guidelines and using the tools mentioned in the tutorial. I included both the before and after. It’s a lot of fun! I suggest you try it!

All of the images below are from our trip. I went a bit too far with the HDR effect but that was the style I was looking for. It can be easily done in a much more subtle way!

Some shallow depth of field with my 50mm

There is a new Nikon 50mm F1.4 AF-S lens… whenever there is a new lens in town all the discussion boards are full of shots taken with the lens by folks who just recieved it. While i dont have the new lens, I do have the previous version – the Nikkor 50mm F1.4D. Its a great lens and from F2.0 its very sharp and by F2.8 its razaor sharp. Reading all the post in the discussion boards gave me a desire to take some 50mm shots myself.

Today I went to Israel’s Sick Fund to get a refund for a couple of vaccination shots I took as a preparation for our up-coming two month trip to Argentina and Chile next month. Its about 10 minutes walk from my home but i decided to take my 50mm 1.4 with me to shoot some photos with some seriously shallow depth of field – which is the 50mm playground.
